Hamilton Lane Closes Venture Access Fund at $615.3 Million, Exceeding Target

by Barbara

Global private markets investment firm Hamilton Lane (Nasdaq: HLNE) has successfully closed its Venture Access Fund (VAF), surpassing its initial target with a final total of $615.3 million in commitments. The fund exceeded its $500 million goal by 23%, reflecting strong investor confidence in Hamilton Lane’s venture capital strategy.

VAF is designed to capitalize on high-performing and oversubscribed venture funds and companies by leveraging Hamilton Lane’s nearly 30 years of experience in the sector. The fund employs a mix of primary and secondary transactions, aiming to accelerate capital returns and mitigate the J-curve effect, offering a fee-efficient solution for Limited Partners seeking best-in-class venture capital exposure.

The successful fundraise builds upon Hamilton Lane’s extensive track record in venture and growth equity, managing nearly $117 billion in assets under management and supervision. VAF is the firm’s first globally distributed venture fund, attracting a diverse group of investors, including public and corporate pension funds, financial institutions, Taft-Hartley plans, family offices, and endowments.

“We are thrilled to announce the final close of our inaugural Venture Access Fund, which exceeded expectations despite a challenging fundraising environment,” said Miguel Luina, Co-Head of Venture and Growth Equity at Hamilton Lane. “This milestone underscores investor confidence in our ability to identify top-tier venture opportunities and navigate an evolving market.”

Matt Pellini, also Co-Head of Venture and Growth Equity, highlighted the current market’s potential: “For firms with scale, expertise, and strong relationships, the venture capital landscape remains highly attractive. AI and other disruptive technologies are driving rapid value creation, while lower capital availability presents significant opportunities in the secondary market, as companies stay private longer and shareholders seek liquidity solutions.”

With this latest milestone, Hamilton Lane further cements its position as a leading player in private markets, offering institutional investors enhanced access to premier venture capital opportunities.
