RWE has launched the inaugural call for projects under its new community fund, aimed at fostering stronger ties between renewable energy production and local communities in the Normandy and Hauts-de-France regions. The fund, which is backed by the output of RWE’s wind farms in Catillon-Fumechon (Oise), Ronchois (Seine-Maritime), and Troisvilles-Reumont (Nord), is endowed with €120,000 for its first year and is designed to support public-interest initiatives.
A Commitment to Local Impact
Katja Wünschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, highlighted the company’s dedication to supporting the regions that host its wind farms. “RWE is rolling out its community fund to support the regions that host our wind farms and their communities. This fund extends the impact of our actions by delivering tangible benefits that contribute to local solidarity initiatives. Local and shared—that is how we envision the energy transition,” Wünschel explained.
Fund Eligibility and Focus Areas
The community fund is open to non-profit organizations, including associations and foundations, with the exception of local authorities. It will focus on projects that align with key areas such as heritage preservation, biodiversity conservation, and the energy transition. These categories cover a wide array of initiatives, including:
- Promoting local traditions and culture
- Restoring cultural or religious sites
- Protecting biodiversity and acquiring protected lands
- Reducing waste and greenhouse gas emissions
RWE will assess proposals based on their alignment with the fund’s core themes, the quality and clarity of the proposal, its feasibility, and its ethical compliance. A geographic criterion will prioritize projects that directly benefit the areas surrounding RWE’s renewable energy operations.
Application Process and Deadline
Non-profit organizations in the Normandy and Hauts-de-France regions can submit their projects for consideration until June 1, 2025. The fund’s goal is to enhance local communities by funding initiatives that contribute to a sustainable future.
Through this initiative, RWE aims to further integrate its renewable energy efforts with the local fabric, supporting regional development while promoting shared values of sustainability and community solidarity.
