Woodside Energy, Australia’s leading gas producer, announced on Wednesday the hiring of Sarah Bairstow, the CEO of Mexico Pacific, to oversee its Louisiana liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in the U.S.
Bairstow will join Woodside in early May as senior vice president at the Louisiana LNG project, a position confirmed by a company spokesperson, following a Bloomberg report.
This move comes shortly after Woodside reached a deal to sell a 40% stake in the Louisiana LNG facility to U.S. infrastructure investor Stonepeak for $5.7 billion. The sale is expected to reduce Woodside’s capital spending on the project and represents a significant step toward finalizing the plant’s investment decision.
Additionally, Woodside has been in discussions with other potential partners to further reduce its ownership in Louisiana LNG.
Last year, Woodside acquired U.S. LNG developer Tellurian for $1.2 billion to advance the 27.6 million metric tons per year project, previously named Driftwood. The massive four-phase project is set to meet growing gas demand, with the first phase estimated to cost around $16 billion.
