A Moscow court has convicted Alphabet Inc.’s Google for disclosing personal information of Russian servicemen who died in Ukraine. The ruling was reported by Russia’s TASS news agency on Monday, citing court documents.
The court said a YouTube video revealed details about the deaths of Russian soldiers in Ukraine, including their personal data.
For several years, Russia has required foreign tech companies to remove content it deems illegal, including what it calls “fake news” about the war in Ukraine. The country has imposed consistent, though small, fines on companies that fail to comply.
Google has not responded to requests for comment outside business hours.
In December, Russian President Vladimir Putin accused Google of being used by the U.S. government under former President Joe Biden to push political agendas.
