Russian stocks closed higher on Saturday, boosted by gains in the Oil & Gas, Power, and Telecoms sectors.
The MOEX Russia Index finished the day up 2.10% in Moscow.
Leading the gains on the index was NOVATEK PJSC (MCX:NVTK), which saw a 5.25% rise, adding 65.60 points to close at 1,314.60. IPJSC YANDEX (MCX:YDEX) also posted a strong performance, up 1.83% or 78.50 points, finishing at 4,371.50. Gazprom PJSC (MCX:GAZP) climbed 1.68%, adding 2.53 points to end at 152.76.
On the downside, Unipro PJSC (MCX:UPRO) was the worst performer, dropping 0.63% or 0.01 points to close at 1.89. AFK Sistema PJSC (MCX:AFKS) lost 0.51% or 0.08 points, ending at 16.08, while Moskovskaya Birzha PJSC (MCX:MOEX) fell 0.41% or 0.86 points to 207.16.
Overall, advancing stocks outnumbered decliners on the Moscow Stock Exchange by a margin of 69 to 26, with 3 stocks remaining unchanged.
The Russian Volatility Index (RVI), which tracks the implied volatility of MOEX Russia Index options, decreased by 2.21% to 53.44.
In commodities, Gold Futures for June delivery dropped 1.50%, or $50.20, to $3,298.40 per troy ounce. Crude oil for June delivery rose 0.37%, or 23 cents, to $63.02 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract increased by 0.48%, or 32 cents, to $66.87 a barrel.
On the currency front, the USD/RUB exchange rate fell by 0.69%, settling at 82.62, and EUR/RUB dropped 0.91% to 93.89.
The US Dollar Index Futures rose by 0.09%, closing at 99.25.
