The United States Commodities regulator, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), has disbursed a total of $16 million to whistleblowers throughout this year, predominantly in cases tied to the cryptocurrency sector.

CFTC Commissioner, Christy Goldsmith Romero, disclosed in a statement released on October 31, that the lion’s share of the rewarded whistleblowers in 2023 had provided invaluable information related to the world of cryptocurrencies. She asserted that the cryptocurrency industry remained a breeding ground for widespread fraudulent activities and other unlawful practices.
