Former U.S. president and current Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump will address the upcoming Bitcoin 2024 conference in Nashville, Tennessee, on July 27, conference organizers announced on Wednesday.
Trump, who is vying against Democratic President Joe Biden in the upcoming U.S. election, has positioned himself as a vocal advocate for cryptocurrencies. At a recent San Francisco fundraiser in June, he criticized Democratic efforts to regulate the sector, portraying himself as a champion for financial innovation.
The cryptocurrency industry, facing increased scrutiny from regulators following the 2022 bankruptcies of major firms, has intensified efforts to sway U.S. policymakers. These failures highlighted investor concerns and revealed instances of fraud, affecting millions of stakeholders.
“Trump pledged his support for the American Bitcoin industry in May 2024, promoting financial independence and enhancing the global presence of U.S. Bitcoin enterprises,” organizers noted on the conference website, highlighting Trump as the event’s main attraction.
Trump has also expressed interest in boosting domestic bitcoin mining efforts.
“We want all remaining Bitcoin to be MADE IN THE USA,” Trump stated via his Truth Social platform in June.
The San Francisco fundraiser in June, which saw Trump raise $12 million, drew participation from executives of crypto giant Coinbase, crypto investors Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, and other prominent figures in the cryptocurrency realm.
Meanwhile, the Biden administration has signaled its intent to collaborate with Congress in formulating a regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies.
