New Affordable Housing Project in Hervey Bay to Benefit Seniors and Single Women

by Barbara

The Miles Government has announced the construction of 32 affordable homes in Hervey Bay, funded through the Housing Investment Fund and the Homes for Queenslanders initiative. This project marks a significant step in addressing housing needs for low-income seniors aged 65 and over, as well as low-income single women aged 50 and over.

Local company Shorelyne has partnered with Metricon to develop the homes, which will be located in the Pinnacle Hervey Bay estate. The new homes will feature one-, two-, and three-bedroom dual key designs, offering ageing-in-place solutions that allow tenants to live independently and with dignity.

Construction is scheduled to start in August, aligning with the broader Homes for Queenslanders plan, which aims to deliver one million additional homes across the state.

Member for Hervey Bay, Adrian Tantari, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Hervey Bay values its older community, and these new homes will have a profound impact. I have advocated for more housing, especially for the most vulnerable in our community, and am thrilled to see this project come to fruition. These 32 new homes will complement the social housing currently being built in Hervey Bay.”

Housing Minister Meaghan Scanlon highlighted the project’s significance, noting, “The Housing Investment Fund is a testament to effective partnerships with industry and community housing providers. This project exemplifies our commitment to expanding affordable housing options. We are exploring every avenue to expedite housing solutions and support innovative Queensland businesses. This contrasts sharply with the LNP’s stance, which hinders 8,000 Queenslanders from purchasing homes by obstructing Help to Buy legislation.”

Danielle Kohen, CEO of Shorelyne, shared her excitement about the initiative, stating, “Shorelyne is proud to introduce this new project aimed at providing affordable housing for the ageing population on the Fraser Coast. The ‘Ageing in Place’ concept ensures tenants can live comfortably and independently. We are grateful for the Queensland Government’s support and look forward to delivering a high-quality housing solution in the region.”
