Amazon has announced the wind-down of its “Try Before You Buy” service, which allowed Prime members to try on select clothing, shoes, and accessories at home before making a purchase. The service, which was introduced under the Prime Wardrobe name in 2017 and officially launched in 2018, will conclude on January 31, 2025. After this date, eligible customers will no longer be able to place orders using the benefit.
The program allowed Prime members to order up to six clothing items on a trial basis and return any unwanted items within seven days without incurring charges. However, an Amazon spokesperson explained that the service’s limited scope and growing reliance on AI-powered features, such as virtual try-ons and personalized size recommendations, have led to the decision to phase out the program.
Amazon pointed out that as more customers leverage AI-driven tools to select the right sizes and outfits, the company is opting to simplify the shopping experience. The spokesperson noted that despite this change, customers will continue to enjoy free returns on apparel items, and the removal of “Try Before You Buy” will allow for a broader selection and quicker delivery options.
This shift is part of Amazon’s ongoing efforts to streamline its operations, reducing costs associated with returns and improving the overall efficiency of its e-commerce platform.
