Community-led projects in Walsall will soon have the opportunity to apply for funding from a £249,840 grant awarded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund. The funding will be distributed through the Crowdfund Walsall programme, a collaboration between Walsall Council and Spacehive, aimed at supporting local community groups and voluntary organizations across the borough. This initiative aligns with the goals outlined in the Walsall Heritage Strategy.
Thanks to contributions from National Lottery players, the grant will become available in April 2025, empowering local groups to deliver projects that protect, celebrate, and inspire the area’s heritage. Over a three-year period, funding will be accessible to those proposing heritage-focused initiatives through the Crowdfund Walsall platform.
Building on Success
Launched in 2021, Crowdfund Walsall has already supported 54 local projects, including a range of heritage-focused initiatives. Notable examples include the ‘Walsall Memory Jar – Down the Arbo,’ an online archive capturing memories of Walsall Arboretum Park from both past and present visitors, and ‘Migrants’ Memories,’ which documents the stories, photos, and experiences of a Polish Saturday school through a published book and exhibition.
Encouraging Community Participation
In addition to funding, the programme will also provide opportunities for community members to engage in the decision-making process around grant allocation. This will further enhance local involvement in preserving and promoting Walsall’s heritage. The initiative aims to allow even more people to connect with, participate in, and contribute to the borough’s rich cultural history.
