Singapore-based BOC Aviation announced on Monday that it will purchase 120 aircraft from Boeing and Airbus as part of its plan to grow its fleet to 1,000 planes by 2030.
The majority-owned Bank of China subsidiary will buy 70 A320NEO family aircraft from Airbus and 50 737-8 jets from Boeing.
This purchase highlights the rising demand for narrowbody aircraft, driven by a surge in global travel. However, production challenges—including worker strikes, regulatory scrutiny, and supply chain pressures—could cause delays in delivery.
Details of the deal were not disclosed by Boeing or BOC Aviation, and Airbus has yet to comment.
BOC Aviation CEO Steven Townend stated, “With this transaction, we have commitments to purchase over 140 Boeing 737-8 aircraft, marking the largest Boeing order in our history.”
The company aims to expand its fleet to 1,000 aircraft by 2030. As of the end of 2024, BOC Aviation will own and manage 709 planes.
The Boeing aircraft are expected to be delivered by 2031, while the Airbus planes will arrive by 2032.
