Marathon Digital Initiates Bitcoin Mining Utilizing Landfill Methane in Groundbreaking Utah Pilot Venture

Marathon Digital (NASDAQ:MARA) has embarked on a pioneering endeavor, leveraging methane gas derived from a landfill to power their Bitcoin (BTC) mining operations. This 280-kilowatt off-grid pilot initiative is currently operational in the state of Utah.

Marathon has entered into a strategic partnership with Nodal Power for the realization of this ambitious project. Nodal Power, established in November 2022, specializes in harnessing energy from landfill gas in the southeastern regions of the United States and Texas. In August, they successfully secured $13 million in seed funding to facilitate the operation of two distinct sites, one of which includes a cutting-edge data center.
