Leading the positive momentum on the Nikkei 225 were notable performances from CyberAgent Inc (TYO:4751), surging by 4.95% or 41.90 points to settle at 888.80. Meanwhile, Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (TYO:7003) demonstrated a 3.14% increase, adding 16.00 points to close at 526.00. Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. (TYO:4183) also exhibited strong growth, rising by 3.06% or 126.00 points to reach 4,237.00 in late trade.
Conversely, the session witnessed declines, with Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857) experiencing a 4.33% drop, translating to a decrease of 207.00 points and closing at 4,570.00. NEC Corp. (TYO:6701) followed suit, declining by 2.96% or 247.00 points to finish at 8,087.00. Odakyu Electric Railway Co., Ltd. (TYO:9007) also saw a 2.02% decrease, with a loss of 43.50 points, settling at 2,113.50.
In the Tokyo Stock Exchange, declining stocks outnumbered advancing ones.
The Nikkei Volatility, reflecting the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, marked a 3.82% decrease, reaching 17.87, representing a new 1-month low.
Commodity markets exhibited fluctuations, with January delivery crude oil experiencing a 1.13% decrease to $76.23 a barrel. Brent oil for January delivery also dropped by 1.26% or 1.03, closing at $80.93 a barrel. On the other hand, the December Gold Futures contract observed a 0.19% increase, gaining 3.75 points and settling at $1,996.55 a troy ounce.
Currency markets saw the USD/JPY pairing decline by 0.37% to 148.97, while the EUR/JPY pairing fell by 0.17% to 162.58.
The US Dollar Index Futures registered a 0.29% decrease, closing at 103.52.
